Laura grew up in the small town of Bluffton, South Carolina. She is the youngest child of the late Thomas and Clare Heyward. She has an older brother and an older sister, both of whom reside in Bluffton with their families. Laura grew up on a small farm in the middle of the woods and is so thankful for the experiences she had growing up. After high school, she decided to spread her wings and move away from home to go to school. Laura graduated from Winthrop University in 2006 before moving to the Columbia area for two years. In June of 2008, she moved to Savannah, GA and to get her Masters at Armstrong Atlantic University. She plans to move back to the Columbia area after finishing school this summer.
Corey grew up in Lexington, South Carolina. He is the son of the late Thomas Sturkie and of Renee Evans. He has one younger brother. Corey has worked in many different fields and can do almost anything. In 2006, he went back to school to become an EMT-B. He has since gone back for further training and education and is an EMT-I. He currently works for Lexington County EMS. Corey is also training to be a volunteer fireman, actively involved in his Mason's Lodge, part of a canine search and rescue team, and involved in many other services and organizations.
We met through a mutual friend at Winthrop. We started dating during Laura's senior year at Winthrop. We have now lived in several different cities. We started out in Rock Hill before Corey moved back to West Columbia to start a new job. Laura soon followed. We were in West Columbia together for about a year and a half before Laura moved to Savannah to go back to school. While the distance hasn't been fun, it certainly assured us that we were meant to be. We have had a crazy rollercoaster ride during our relationship of three years and can't wait to see what the future has in store for us!
Our wedding will take place at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Lexington, South Carolina. This is Corey's home church and where we plan to attend church during our time in Columbia. This is an informal, afternoon, spring wedding. Casual spring outfits are appropriate.
The reception will follow the ceremony and be held at Jamil Temple. Jamil is located just off of I-26 at exit 106, St. Andrew's Road.
